Braintree board member Matt Miller sworn in as Mayor of Ashland

Miller took his oath of office with his wife, Melanie, by his side, and former city mayors Doug Cellar, Bill Strine, Glen Stewart and Duane Fishpaw behind him. They were joined on the stage by Ashland County Commissioners Mike Welch, Denny Bittle and Jim Justice; State Senate President Larry Obhof; Ohio House District 70 Rep. Darrell Kick; and community leaders Doug Marrah, Ashland City Schools superintendent; Barbie Lange, director of Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce; Ashland University President Carlos Campo; University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center chief medical officer Dr. Jim Mooney; and Jim Cutright, executive director of Ashland County Community Foundation, among others. “I want to say a great big thank you, thank you for rising to the level of leadership you have in the organizations you’re representing tonight,” Miller said. “It’s not by accident that we have on this stage these men and women. They have worked hard to make these organizations better. “We’re a community of good people. These leaders sit before you tonight ready to cooperate, ready to work together to move this community forward. “But now we need to recognize one of the most important groups of people that will help move this community forward, and that’s all the men and women, the moms and dads, sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, our seniors, our children that live here in the city of Ashland. You are the men and women who can work with us to make this community sparkle. I am counting on each one of you to stand there with us as we focus on the issues we’ve talked about these last several months.”
