Crain's: Innovation Fund awards $200,000 to five tech startups

The Innovation Fund has never been limited to Lorain County — but the nonprofit’s latest round of awards reaches all the way to Mansfield and Alliance.The fund has awarded a total of $200,000 to five young tech companies in Northeast Ohio, according to a news release. Half of that money went to InfoGPS, the company at Braintree in Mansfield. The company provides cybersecurity software and services to companies in highly regulated industries. The Innovation Fund — which was founded by the Lorain County Community College Foundation — also gave $25,000 awards to four other companies:• Rabblester of Cleveland is developing software that “facilitates communication between brands and consumers” and helps those brands figure out which advertising methods are the most effective, according to the news release. The company will use its funding to finish “phase one” of its website, Rabblester.com.• Virteom of Avon has created a platform designed to help marketers promote their businesses online.• O2 Regen Tech of Akron is commercializing an antimicrobial dressing designed to treat chronic wounds by releasing oxygen. The company will use the money to support animal testing of its product, OXAID.• Micro Datastat of Alliance is developing a system for dispensing medications at hospital pharmacies. The Innovation Fund is managed by the GLIDE business incubator at Lorain County Community College.
